FREE Tutorial: Using WP Connect

FREE Tutorial: Using WP Connect

You may have noticed the changes on OutsourcingExposed.com recently. Not only have we moved to a brand new HTML5 theme, we’ve also added a groovy new plugin from Kevin Docherty called WP Connect.

That’s the black button floating over on the side of the screen with the “Find Staff” button etc.  This is a cool plugin to drive people to specific actions on your site.  The plugin is particularly made for getting visitors to contact you – and it does a good job of that.  This is especially helpful for ‘real’ businesses – or for you if you have clients who are ‘real’ businesses – ie if you are doing local SEO and local web marketing for clients near you.

You can get the plugin here <<

But what if you want to drive people to something other than a ‘contact’ type interaction?

I personally wanted to use this same plugin to show people how to make progress with their outsourcing and getting a Virtual Assistant or virtual admin worker, article writer, Social Media Manager etc.

Maybe you might use it to drive people to your sales page? Or your ‘More Info’ page?  Whatever you want…

So you can see this in action over on the right side of your screen right now.  If you click on the “FIND STAFF” black button, you get a popup giving you more information, with a “Show Me” button.  Click that and you go to the page about hiring your own experts.

What I’m going to show you here is a cheeky workaround I did to do this. Its pretty simple, and I’m going to give you (FREE) the base image which you can adapt.

For the purpose I am about to show you, you can use and adapt the “button2” option, which starts off life called “BOOK (button2)”.

Normally, when you install the WP Connect plugin you get to use this default image

But what if the action you want that button to do is not to ‘book’ anything?

If you look at how we changed this button, you can see we changed the button to show the words “Show Me”, using this image

The way we did that was to strip the image back to the base button, without the text like this…

And this last blank image is exactly what YOU can use to edit and add your own text. Right click on the blank button above, and save it to your computer. Go ahead – feel free 🙂

Then use whatever image editor you want – Photoshop, Paintshop, whatever you use. Add your own commands. What do you want people to do?

Save that file and name it…

Ellipse-11.png

Then upload that file to your site hosting – but FIRST take a copy of your original, just in case you want to revert to the original. Save the original as something like Ellipse-11-ORIGINAL.png

Now upload your own edited Ellipse-11.png image to this location on your site hosting…

/wp-content/plugins/WPConnectPlugin/images/Ellipse-11.png

Now, here are the specific steps in detail (if you havent worked it out using the plugin itself – its pretty straight forward)

  1. On the WP Connect General Settings page make sure the “BOOK (button2)” option is selected (ticked, checked) – hit “Save Changes”
  2. On the WP COnnect Customize Buttons page, edit the “BOOK” (button2) box to whatever text you want to show on the button – hit “Save Changes”
  3. On the WP Connect Splash Screen Settings, scroll down to the Splash Screen 2 Settings.
    1. Edit the “Head display text”, which is the header at the top of the popup window
    2. the “Display text”, which is the text below the button
    3. the “Button Action/URL” – where do you want the visitor to go when they click?
  4. Save Changes

So that is it.  In addition to editing the blank button image above, maybe these options will help you (remember to rename them correctly when you save them). Again, these are FREE from me to you – use and enjoy. Right click, save and upload as outlined above.

ALSO – let me know in the comments below, what text you want your button to say. I’m happy to create more buttons for you here, with your text. Just let me know in the comments below…
